Where We Are
CCEF’s core activity of developing local government expertise in coastal resource management has resulted in an increasing amount of advisory and contract work from governments, corporations and other NGOs. CCEF also hosts study tours for both national and international groups wishing to learn first hand how locally motivated coastal resource management is initiated and sustained. CCEF’s expertise has increased its participation in national-level MPA activities, contributing management tools such as the MPA Rating and Database System. CCEF continues to engage in strategic research efforts to help inform improved management and conservation of coastal and marine resources with a focus on coral reefs and fisheries. '

One Million Mangroves for Cebu Project
Full Title:
One Million Mangroves for Cebu Project
Overview:
A mangrove rehabilitation initiative is presently in progress in Cebu in line with the declaration of Cebu’s Coastal Protection Month every September pursuant to Executive Order No. 2005-07 of the Provincial Governor. The declaration intended to highlight coastal protection of the province and conduct activities to address pressing issues in the coastal zone. In September 2006, the “One Million Mangroves for Cebu” project was launched. The program highlights and encourages active involvement of the schools, business sector, civic groups and the public to plant mangroves. Its aim is to plant one million mangrove propagules and seedlings in the entire province, starting on the Coastal Protection Month. In line with such activities, this project aims to assist in achieving the target of planting one million mangroves in the Province of Cebu. To do this, the project focuses on improved management and mangrove forest enhancement of 448.78 hectares of mangrove forest in ten (10) municipalities in Cebu. These include Liloan, Pinamungahan, Carcar, San Fernando, Argao, Moalboal, Aloguinsan, Dalaguete, Carmen, and Cordova.
The project program hopes to assist in the mangrove resource enhancement in the province of Cebu. Fittingly called the “One Million Mangroves for Cebu” project, it aims to plant a million mangrove propagules and/or seedlings in the entire province. The project will also provide technical assistance in the establishment, management and strengthening of mangrove nurseries in eight (8) target municipalities. The program also expects to encourage the active involvement of the schools, business sector, civic groups and the public to plant mangroves.
Objectives:
1. To reforest identified degraded mangrove areas in the province by enhanced mangrove planting, and establishment and management of mangrove nurseries;
2. To draw public support and develop a collaborative spirit among local government units and/or people’s organizations, business sector, student population and civic groups in protecting mangroves and the coastal zone in general.
